Culinary Eco-Dough

Last modified on 2010-03-04 20:17:46 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Want a fun culinary recipe that the kids can put together and then play with? Make our kid friendly dough! This teaches math through ingredient measurements, science on how things change form when combined, and creativity when they get to create anything in their imaginations.

MATERIALS

2 cups flour

1/2 cup salt

1/2 cup water

Food coloring and Essential oils

Mix together flour, salt and water in a large bowl until it forms a soft dough. Add more water as needed. Then divide dough and knead a different color into each portion. Scent each color the same way with a different essential oli like mint, orange or lavender. Store in clean, empty jars like baby food jars.

The Core of the Matter!

To quickly and easily remove the core of a head of iceberg lettuce, hold the head core-side down over the kitchen counter. Then firmly strike the core against the counter. It should then remove with a gentle pull. This way you can use the maximum amount of your head of lettuce.

Then to crispy up your greens before serving, wash lettuce under very cold running water. This will not only crisp it up, but help bring out the bright green color. Place lettuce in a salad spinner to remove all excess moisture.

And remember, never cut lettuce - tear it. Cutting with a knife bruises and discolors the edges of lettuce!

Have you ever had problems neatly cutting a boiled egg? You’ll solve your problem by spraying a little non-stick cooking spray on your knife blade. This will keep the egg from crumbling and the yolk from sticking to the blade.

Preventing Microwave Splatters

As some of you may have experienced, some of our sauces call to be heated in the microwave, which can cause food to splatter.

A cool trick for keeping your microwave clean, and not tainting the food with a soggy napkin is to cover your item by using a disposable coffee filter. Just place the sauce in a microwave safe container and place a basket style filter upside down over the container.
You’ll keep things clean, which means less work!!!
